When you think of Black Thunder, you think of the “overwhelming crunch!” By combining the crunch of our specially made slightly bitter cocoa cookies with the airy texture of plain biscuits and coating it with just the right amount of chocolate, we achieve our signature “overwhelming crunch.”
Increasing the crunch for our 30th anniversary!
We have created a new cocoa cookie with a harder texture than the classic version! Enjoy the next level of “overwhelming crunch” created by our two distinct cocoa cookies and plain biscuits.
During the creation process, we take extreme care not to crush the cookies and biscuits too hard. After that, we cut 18 rows of Black Thunder in one go! The crunch echoes throughout the factory. After plunging into a chocolate waterfall, we blow away excess chocolate to achieve the perfect amount. After thorough cooling, the Black Thunder is complete and ready to deliver “overwhelming crunch!”

The secret of birth
In 1994, Yuraku Confectionery's flagship product was “Choco Nuts 3*,” a chocolate bar with any air texture containing puffs and nuts. Black Thunder was designed as a contrast to “Choco Nuts 3” by offering a “hard” and “heavy” texture.

The secret of name
“Black” was derived from the color of the snack, as well as the cocoa cookies from which it is made, while “Thunder” was chosen to invoke thoughts of super heroes popular with children. The original packaging featured the name written English to make it look cool! The slogan “lightning-class taste” first appeared following the redesign in 2000. The signature Black Thunder humor continues to shine through in this slogan. In 2003, the name was changed to its current katakana presentation, making it easier to read.

Black Thunder was born in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture. It has been loved and supported by the local community since 1994.
Black Thunder celebrated it’s 30th anniversary in 2024, and will continue to energize the place of its birth.
Black Thunder appointed Toyohashi Amba-thunder!
Black Thunder is the first product to serve as a “Toyohashi Tourism Ambassador,” a role given to individuals with ties to Toyohashi who promote the city nationwide! Ahead of the opening of the new facility (Black Thunder Waku Zaku Factory), it was officially appointed by the city as “Toyohashi Ambassunder” on May 20, 2025.
